At least 70 Ugandan students on Saturday departed to study a range of programs, from arts to sciences.

The students got the scholarships after the Iranian government generously provided the academic programs.

More than 70 students gathered at the office of the National Chairman at Kyambogo Lower Estate on Wednesday afternoon for a briefing from the Iranian embassy envoy and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobilization office that had facilitated the process of acquiring the programs.

Abbas said the process will be done in phases to complete all the students who had applied.

The Iranian Ambassador to Uganda, Majid Saffar revealed that whereas Iran has social and economic problems, the students will learn that the nation of 87million people has managed to live with a litany of economic sanctions leveled against them by the United States.

Saffar’s comments come a day after the US Treasury Department said that the United States and the United Kingdom imposed more sanctions on a network of people who targeted Iranian opposition activists for assassination under Iran’s orders.

While there was a general conclusion that Iran has fewer black people, Saffar encouraged the students to learn the culture of Iran and ensure they use their time productively.

“We have black people in Iran and black is beautiful,” Saffar told the gathering.
The undergraduate degrees Ugandan students will pursue include Business management, information technology, architectural engineering, and Law.

The Graduate programs include Business management, civil and mechanical engineering, Islamic economics, women studies , international relations, social communication sciences, criminal law and criminology, private law, history of Islamic civilization and one PhD in Islamic civilization and theology.
